What are the applications of VR technology?
The application of VR in medicine has very important practical significance. In the virtual environment, virtual human models can be established. With the help of trackballs, HMDs, and sensory gloves, students can easily understand the structure of various organs within the human body, which is much more effective than the existing textbooks. Researchers such as Pieper and Satara established a virtual surgical trainer based on two SGI workstations in the early 1990s for leg and abdominal surgery simulations. This virtual environment includes virtual operating tables and surgical lights, virtual surgical tools (eg, scalpels, syringes, surgical forceps, etc.), virtual human models and organs. With HMD and sensory gloves, users can perform surgery on virtual human models. However, the system needs to be further improved. For example, it is necessary to improve the realism of the environment, increase the network function, enable it to train multiple users at the same time, or work under the guidance of a foreign expert. The VR technology is of great significance in predicting the consequences of surgery and improving the status of rickets among the disabled, and even in the development of new drugs.
In medical colleges, students can perform "carcass" anatomy and various surgical exercises in a virtual laboratory. With this technology, training costs are greatly reduced because of no restrictions on specimens, sites, etc. Some virtual reality systems used for medical training, internships and research have a very high degree of simulation, and their advantages and effects are incalculable and unmatched. For example, a catheter inserted into the artery simulator allows the student to repeatedly practice the catheter insertion operation; the eye surgery simulator creates a three-dimensional image based on the anterior eye structure of the human eye with real-time tactile feedback and students use it The whole process of removing the lens can be observed by simulation, and the transparency of the blood vessels, iris and sclera tissues and the cornea of the anterior eye structure can be observed. There are also anesthesia virtual reality systems, oral surgery simulators, etc.
Before the actual operation, the surgeon can simulate the operation repeatedly on the monitor by the help of virtual reality technology, move the organs inside the body, find the best surgical plan and improve the proficiency. The virtual reality technology can play a very important role in long-distance remote control surgery, planning of complex surgery, information guidance of the surgical process, prediction of surgical consequences, improvement of living conditions of the disabled, and even development of new drugs.
